We (marlyse and I) have now heard from another friend in Melbourne who plans to visit with us, and today I received news from a friend in Sydney who plans to see us there!

Ann Gut said...

We now have 3 different appointments in Melbourne, and very likely a personal guide in Mumbai!
It also appears that a friend will meet me on arrival in L.A. on the 17th January!
The very idea of the cruise gets more exciting by the day!

Dear Ann

Just heard from Helga, so glad to hear you are well and feel more at home on board (your new home for the next 3 months!) Enjoy yourself - you don't miss anything here, it's grey and raining!

Dear Friends,
This is fantastic! Not in my wildest dreams did I think it would be so busy. Every day is filled with too many choices of things to do and food to eat. For instance: before I even got out of bed, there was a program on TV about Hawaii, then with just time to grab a banana for breakfast, I went to my piano lesson, an hour later it was Spanish, followed by an hour of bridge instruction. Then came lunch, and I should have gone to a lecture about the stars that we should see in tonight's sky, but it was beautiful and sunny, so I sat out on the veranda (and fell asleep!)I woke up just in time to go to Duplicate bridge, and my partner and I came in 4th out of some 14 tables. Then, a snack with a fellow from L.A. who has put all his belongings into storage, and is living on the ship for the time being. Now, I am writing this, and very shortly I have to dress for dinner in the Italian Restaurant where a couple invited me to join them (instead of going to the regular dining room tonight). If the weather clears enough, there will be the star gazing at 22:30 for an hour, and then it will be time to start all over again, tomorrow. So it goes....

Dear Friends,
Just to say that we have been en route for a whole week, already, and there is never a dull moment! There are surprise gifts, and invitations, and pictures, and daily activities such that there is no time to even think of boredom!
Today was a typical day for me, awake at 06:00, get computer messages (there is an 11 hour time difference just now), shower, dress, no time for breakfast due to a music lesson, followed by a bridge lesson, followed by a Spanish lesson. Lunch was a gala buffet, with all sorts of specialties followed by a quick half hour siesta of about 20 minutes, but before that I spoke to the dining room manager about a change in my table for the next segment of the trip. I also made an appointment with the sales office to get information about another trip for next year. Practically everyone I know has already signed on for next year!
The next item on my daily agenda was 2 hours of duplicate bridge, followed, by a tour of the galley (kitchen). Then a much needed rest while I watched two of the lectures on TV, that I had missed in person due to program conflicts. At 19:00. I had to be dressed for dinner, and have my photo taken for the World Cruise Photo Album (which will be sent directly to Switzerland at the finish of the cruise. At 19:30, I had a date for dinner in the Japanese Restaurant, which was excellent, and when I returned to my stateroom, there was a bottle of wine waiting for me, compliments of the fellow who runs the casino. And so it goes. Yesterday, there was a new polo shirt waiting for me.
Tomorrow, we cross the Equator, and there is supposed to be some sort of bash for that, also.
So far, I don't know how to get pictures on here. Hope all is well with all of you. Kind regards Ann

Dear Friends,
Here, it is Wednesday evening, and we just spent the afternoon in Raiatéa in French Polynesia, and for the next 4 öor 5 days, we will be landing at a different island each day.... iincluding Bora Bora, Papeete,Tahiti, etc. The days on land are much more relaxing (if one stays on the ship, that is!!) because of all the classes I take when we are at sea. Today, I went ashore for an hour or so,
just to see what was available (mostly souvenir shops or grocery stores) and then came back to do a laundry, take a sunbath, and eventually find my way up to the Jacuzzi and the swimming pool.In Papeete, I signed up for a sightseeing trip and was promised that it would not entail too much walking, which I still find difficult.Once we leave Papeete, we change direction to a more westerly route, heading eventually to Auckland on Feb. 12, when Marlyse will join me.
I just got my first Skype call from my son, and otherwise, I am always glad to get your emails. You can email me directly at anngut8700@bluewin.ch
I hope all is well back in Zürich, and will be glad to hear from you at any time. I shall be curious to get any updates concerning ZIWA!
Fond regards, Ann

Again, I am unable to post anything except a comment....but just to update you, I took a glass bottom boat this morning to a lagoon in Bora Bora to look at the corals and the fish. I have some pictures, but can^t post them on coments!
In the meantime, I played bridge yesterday with a new partner, and we came in first! Same partner today, with same results. However, tomorrow is a "sea day" and we each have to play with someone else that we promised on the last sea day...so we hope to play together again on the next "land day".
Last night, I met a Schultess couple who are here from Geneva, and cousins to my landlord in Küsnacht!
I have now changed my dining room table to a much quieter corner of the room, and it is more agreeable.

Dear Friends, I am still unable to post a blog correctly, but hopefully you don't mind scrolling through all the comments to the end. At least, that way you will have some information about my activities. Yesterday, I visited the Island of Samoa, and enjoyed a wonderful sightseeing tour of the countryside, where I took quite a few pictures to remind me of the fruit that is grown there ( sugar cane, mango, banana, pineapple, breadfruit, tara, avocado, etc.) the way the refuse is deposited for collection (on top of a post to prevent dogs from disturbing it), the way the houses are built (all open and often on stilts). Men wear what resembles a wrap around skirt (they say it is cooler)and both family life and religion are very strong. Sunday is a complete day of rest, and everyone goes to one of the many churches available in each village; no stores are open for business on Sunday. There is no crime and the people are content with their lot.
Today, we stopped at Fiji, but I remained on board, because I needed a day to relax (do laundry, read, and go swimming). On sea days, I don't have time for anything except my various classes and bridge.
It is already Saturday, here, and Marlyse will arrive on Tuesday!
Tonight is the "Bogart Bash" honoring the Casablanca film and "Rick's Café". I plan to go in my Turkish harem pants!
